Ballroom Dance Workshop Recap - March 21st, 2026

Fluence Arts is Making Dance Happen in Albion - by Pamela A. Smith

On Saturday, March 21 st , Fluence Arts, a non-profit professional dance organization in Albion,

hosted a Ballroom Dance Workshop. The workshop was held at In-Fluence Studio located at

600 E. Michigan Ave, Room 204 in Albion. A diverse group of twenty adults – couples and

singles, a grandmother and her adult grandson, older teens and their mom, and a basketball

coach brought to the class by his wife as a “surprise” – participated throughout the day.

Kristy Clement (Artistic Director) provided expert instruction, demonstrated a variety of dance

styles with her partner, Christopher Kortman, and encouraged dancers during practice periods.

The mood was upbeat and filled with music and laughter as participants challenged themselves,

helped each other and showed off new steps. At the close of the day, the overall sentiment

was “We want more!” More lessons, more practice, more dance.

Fortunately, more opportunities to dance in Albion are right around the corner. On April 1 st (6 to 8 pm) and April 4th (2 to 4 pm), Fluence Arts invites all community members interested in being part of a new Community Dance Project to the studio for “reverse auditions” where they can meet Kristy Clement, experience her instruction, and learn about rehearsal and performance plans. There is no cost to attend reverse auditions or the instruction and rehearsal sessions Ms. Clement will offer the group to prepare for their debut performance in Albion on June 6th .

The opportunity to be part of Fluence’s new dance group is open to all members of the Albion

community, and surrounding areas. No previous dance experience is required. All bodies and

abilities are welcome. The studio is accessible. Children ages 10 and up, teens, and adults are all

invited. Parents are expected to accompany children ages 10 to 15.
